
Santa Maria is a deep river, located in the country´s central area some 2 and a half hour drive on the Pan American Highway. When one talks about this river we are talking of all its eloquents. Although there is no a great variety of fishing, the river continue being a good place for fishing, above all for its closeness to other important fishing spots. |

Main species:
Tarpon are mainly catched in the river mouth, reservoirs and water falls; although it is not among the favorite species, it is a good catch when it is chasing the tarpons.
Fishing techniques:
The conventional fishing equipment is a 7 foot bate of light action with spinning or casting cart with 12 to 15 pound reel, mainly on the river bank and currents.
Facilities:
There are no fishing facilities in this area, mainly because fishing is done on the river bank and if you want to ride on boat or speed boat you must bring your own or request the town´s inhabitants to rent their canoes. It is mainly a complementary place to fishing in places like Pedasí or Aguadulce, only a few minutes away.
Season:
The main season is during the rainy season between April and November, but its better to fish once the currents have passed in order to find cleaner waters and without debris that the currents might drag. |
