The Chiriqui Gulf Marine National Park is not easy to reach but taking the Inter American Highway is the best choice. It is found in Chiriqui province close to the town of Horconcitos. The area has a surface of 14,740 square kilometers and is located south of the Bay of Los Muertos in the Chiriqui Gulf. David is the closest city where you can lodge.
It is better known as the Archipelago of the Páridas Islands and there you will find Parida Islands (largest) and Paridita, the only populated in the archipelago containing abundant water. Other protected islands within the park are Santa Catalina, Pulgoso, Gámez, Tintorera, Obispo, Obispone, Los Pargos, Ahogado, Icacos, Corral de Piedra, Bolaños, Berraco, Bolañitos, San José, Linarte, Saíno, Sainitos, Iglesia Mayor, Carey Macho and Carey Hembra.
The park is made up of islands, marinas and coastal areas. Its objective is to preserve the ecosystems and maintain the diversity of flora and fauna; promote scientific activities for the conservation and protection of the threatened species in the area, ecological tourism activities, environmental education and the appreciation for nature.
Flying from island to island you can appreciate the variety of rich biodiversity of flora and fauna in the region. Significantly, the richness of the sea that surrounds the archipelago with its coral reefs and its marine prairies turns this park into the ideal paradise for divers and those that love to fish. From here you are able to observe (during the season) large marine creatures like hunchedback whales, orcas, sharks, manta ray and large amounts of dolphins.
