This is a wonderful tour from Panama City to Bocas del Toro Islands. Early the next morning board a plane at the Albrook Terminal which will take you to the Bocas del Toro Archipelago, far from the metropolitan activity.
Once you arrive, you will immediately feel the sensation of unexplored and uncontaminated nature. This is where the country´s first national marine park was built.
The Bocas del Toro Archipelago is made up of several main islands like: Colón Island, Popa Islands, Bastimentos Islands, Cristobal Island, Cayo de Agua and Cayo Carenero.
Among the most outstanding of the islands in this archipelago is Colón and Bastimentos Islands, this last has a massive joint coral reefs considered the most extensive and spectacular of the Pamanian Atlantic region.
One of the most impressive attractions of Bocas del Toro is the Bastimentos National Park, the first marine park constructed in the country and it is located in several points of the archipelago. It is a natural reserve of incredible richness which includes coral reefs, large extensions of mangroves, white sand beaches and clear crystal water that runs from Bastimentos Islands itself to the small islets that surrounds the island up to Zapatillas Kays towards the southeast. The Park is a refuge to abundant marine life, birds, reptiles and other animals.
The Zapatillas Keys are small unhabited almost virgen islands with forests, surreounded by a platform of coral and beautiful beaches which are impressive due to its beauty and is complemented with marine life. Underwater diving is one of the prefered activities in the region.
The archipelago has two different regions each one with its own characteristics: interior, where the island´s coasts are bathed by the waters of the Almirante Bay or the Chiriqui Lagoon and in the exterior facing the open sea. While the interior region of the coasts are mainly occupied by mangroves, the exterior, the beaches and rocky coats are the eco systems that predominate.
In reality only two of the islands, Colón and Bastimentos and both Keys Zapatillas have coasts to the sea. The best beaches of the region are located on these coasts: Bluff, Colon island, Wizard, also Dump Beach and Larga Beach in Bastimentos and the smallest but beautiful beaches of both Keys Zapatillas.
These beaches are very important because it is where at least three species of marine tortoise nest: Carey, Baula or the Green Baula.
The archipelago has another three attractions like: Bocas del Drago, Punta Caracol, Los Pajaros Island, Cayo Cisne (Pajaro Island, Punta Hospital, Bay of the Dolphins, Sendero of Ranas Rojas.
Do not lose the chance of touring the islands on board a speedboat, go swimming, walk, fish, surf or diving. In the afternoon return to Panama City.
