Caves at the Alajuela Lake

A relaxing experience for those that prefer an adventure with nature.
A great experience for those that prefer the adventures that nature offers, combined with two tours in one, a relaxing and pleasurable experience with its own flavor. It is surrounded by dense and rich tropical humid forest that surrounds the Chagres National Park, one of the most interesting homes to the country´s wildlife.

The tour begins early in the morning with destination to Chagres Park a trip that lasts about 1 hour. Once there you will board dugout boats belonging to the Emberá indigenous friends who will help you navigate from the Chagres River to the Alajuela Lake crossing by an extensive zoen of trees covered by water that make up this artificial lake of great importance for Panama City and the operation of the Panama Canal.

During this tour of some 35 to 45 minutes, you will disembark in an old raod of Cruces, where the caravans of treasure brought from the Inca cities of Peru passed through. Continue the trip until reaching the closest to a group of interesting formations of rock formed by the walls of the caves.

The Chagres Park caves are very old (close to the date of the formation of the isthmus) and naturally beautiful. It is not so humid and contains small insects, reptiles, flying mammals; they are few distance from one another and you can appreciate clearly the formation of stalagmites of considerable sizes with a peculiar characteristic of producing similar sounds to bell, all this in a relatively short extension. In these caves, you can find vestiges of old inhabitants that were able to use these rock formations as refuge against the weather, beasts, enemies or even as a hideout for treasures during the colonial period. The time of the caves would be about one hour and a half or two.

Once completed the visit to the caves, our Emberá brothers and sisters will take you to their village to offer you a demonstration of their ancestral culturel. You will be able to rest in the village allowing you to prepare for a happy return to Panama City.
