A paradise of beaches, landscape and underwater life.
Cañas island is found in the Azuero Penninsula close to Iguana island and together make up an extraordinary protected natural reserve, declared a Wildlife Refuge in 1980.
The island has natural breeding grounds with different bird and fish species. Its beaches is 16 kilomters long which includes a project for Carey tortoises. Each year you can observe the tortoises laying their eggs. The Cañas Island is home to the best beach in Panama, ideal for surfing: Venado Beach.
Cañas Island together with Iguana has a 16 hectare coral reef with a huge number of native coral species found in Panama´s side of the Pacific Ocean, the largest of the Gulf of Panama with some 4,800 years on hand and approximately 542 fish species. If you are a curious person and love adventure, then snorkeling can provide you with incredible marine biodiverstiy and if you have any luck you can see whales and dolphins that also visit the area frecuently.
